What is club lacrosse?
Youth Club Lacrosse is different from Youth Recreational Lacrosse. Club Lacrosse is typically for more “serious” players seeking higher-level play and wanting to eventually play lacrosse in college. Club programs offer increased exposure to high-level play and help get players in front of college coaches and recruiters. There are many benefits to joining a club lacrosse program, but there can also be potential downsides.
THE POSITIVES OF club:
Offers the potential for year-round play to players who love the game and want more
Exposes players to higher competition levels at club tournaments and college recruiters
Focuses on specialized player skill development through more intensive training
Creates unique experiences through travel and exposure to different regional variations of play
Programs should provide a supportive environment throughout the above endeavors
Potential downsides:
Can be expensive. The expense itself can exclude some players from participating *
More intensive training and travel requirements can be a tough commitment for some families and players
